The sight of love

Lenny Lynch and Leonora
make a very striking pair.
I’ve seen them in Love’s Garden
and at the Lovers’ Fair.

I’ve seen them in the meadows,
walking hand in hand,
laughing at some private joke
only true love understands.

I’ve seen them by the river,
sharing love’s sweet grapes,
gazing in each other’s eyes
like two demented apes.

I’ll make sure my gun is loaded,
next time they take the air.
Then I’ll see them for the last time,
through the cross-hairs.
